Meg Watkins
Specialist Support Coordinator
eg Watkins moved to Townsville with her partner just over 12 months ago for a change of lifestyle and to expand their careers and learning opportunities.
Since moving to North Queensland, Meg had the opportunity to move away from acute nursing into community treatment and care as an RN, allowing her to develop a much greater understanding of how our environment, lifestyle choices and family dynamics affect our overall health and well-being. It also introduced Meg to the NDIS and working with people with disabilities in a much more in-depth way, which lead her to transition away from nursing to pursue this newfound passion for disability support.

eg have been working for a disability support organisation as a lifestyle support worker, as well as an independent provider since December 2020.
Meg believes that as individuals, we never stop learning and growing, and she hopes to continue her studies and life-long education through continuing professional development, along with the IABA training for the development of Positive Behaviour Support Plans and further mental health courses.
Meg has been fortunate enough to have worked in a variety of different health care settings and specialty areas, with the majority of her experience being in acute emergency and mental health nursing. These experiences have really opened her eyes to the concept of holistic health and how complex it can be, as well as teaching her valuable life skills including, but not limited to; how to handle a crisis/emergency/high stress environment calmly, organisational skills, communication and liaising with others effectively, efficient management, leadership and problem-solving skills. This experience has also made her realise how passionate she is for advocating for people’s rights and choices as well as to help improve and develop opportunities for individuals, particularly for those in more vulnerable groups.
