eredith Swift has been living in Townsville since 2015, having relocated here from Ingham to access better services for her non-verbal autistic adult daughter Sarah (now 25).

Meredith has a diverse career background and has been able to connect with people from all walks of life. She has worked as a secretary, barmaid and hospital cook, as well as running her own therapeutic massage business, being a support worker for adults with disabilities and, since 2008, serving as a kindergarten teacher in Ingham and Townsville. She is very much looking forward to this new career direction of Support Coordination and Positive Behaviour Support with the amazing team at PoDDSS, working with individuals with a disability and their families, carers and community.

eredith’s lived experience of raising a child with severe and challenging behaviours meaning she has a deep awareness and understanding of the highs and lows and huge challenges families like hers can experience. She is therefore able to listen with empathy and compassion and to connect families with the resources and supports necessary to achieve the best outcomes, including the importance of sensory awareness.

Meredith is also aware of the challenges that can be present when navigating the NDIS and her aim is to support individuals and families wherever possible. She brings all this experience, enthusiasm and willingness to serve to her new role as Support Co-Ordinator and being trained Positive Behaviour Support.

Meredith believes strong relationships are of primary importance, and she is looking forward to building a great rapport with new and existing clients. Her aim is to support and champion her clients using a person-centered approach, understanding their strengths and goals and working with them to navigate the NDIS and access their best possible life and health outcomes.

In her spare time, Meredith loves to write and is a published author of four books, including “How Do I Do This? The Real and Raw Truth About Raising A Child With Special Needs – Interviews With Parents” which features interviews with local and international families. She is also a keen cook and enjoys reading, walking in nature. Besides Sarah, Meredith has another adult daughter, Melissa, as well as three stepdaughters and five grandchildren.
