Positive Behaviour Support Clinician, Counselor/ Art Therapist
adia Hilton is really excited to be joining the PoDDSS team where she can collaborate and work closely with individuals and families to improve lives for everybody involved. “Everyone, regardless of age, sex and culture deserves the opportunity to enjoy the same benefits as others in society.”
Nadia strives to enable autonomy, self-determination, independence and choice, enabling social justice, equality of opportunity and human rights for all, even when it requires thinking outside the box in order to break barriers.

adia has been living in Townsville since 2004, having relocated here from Cairns to complete her degree in Visual Arts and Digital Media at James Cook University.
Since then, Nadia has studied Education, IT, and Web Design/Development, which she taught at TAFE Queensland for over ten years. She also developed literacy, computer literacy, teaching programs and initiatives to enable people, regardless of age, gender or culture, to flourish and to have hope and opportunity to change life trajectories.
adia has since completed a Master’s in Social Work (Professionally Qualifying) at James Cook University and subsequently worked in the area of domestic violence and sexual assault.
She combined her skills in art, digital media and social work, making a series of videos with respect to supporting and understanding the trauma of those who have experienced sexual violence.
Nadia is passionate about nature, which forms the basis of her art practice. Often, she has a concept for her work; an inequality, an injustice or even a feeling such as struggle that needs to be expressed. She does this through sculpture (mainly clay), mixed media, alcohol inks and photography and digital media.
Nadia provides the following services:
The cathartic experience of art making caused Nadia to further explore and research art therapy at university. She realised that this mode of healing activates sensory responses that are directly connected to emotions and assists people to non-verbally express and overcome difficulties within their lives, enriching the lives of individuals, families, and communities through active art-making – regardless of artistic experience or talent. Moreover, people have been relying on the arts for communication, self-expression, and healing for thousands of years.
