STARTS 26th Feb – Thursday and Tuesdays

A 10-week program for teenagers aged between 12-17 which aims to teach the necessary skills to make friends, build relationships and communicate confidently with others. The group is run by a Psychologist with experience in working with people that have difficulties with initiating and responding to social situations. The group is a small size, maximum of three people to allow for a suitable learning environment.

This is a 10-week program covering the following topics:

  • How to Greet People & Conversation Starters- Week 1
  • How to recognize emotions in myself- Week 2

  • How to recognize emotions in others- Week 3

  • How to manage those emotions- Week 4

  • How to know if someone wants to talk to you/doesn’t want to talk to you- Week 5

  • Understanding different communication styles (passive, assertive, aggressive)- Week 6

  • Understanding Bullying and ways to respond- Week 7

  • Understanding how to make friends- Week 8

  • Understanding difference between unhealthy friendships and healthy friendships- Week 9

  • Understanding what a relationship is & Understanding difference between unhealthy relationships and healthy relationships- Week 10

Programme Descriptions

NDIS clients approved under improved daily living. Total cost for private attendance is $480 paid in advance.

Group therapy programs like the Social Skills groups rely on participation & engagement from all participants, the more you become involved, the more likely you will benefit. Missed sessions can affect the group atmosphere which is an important component of group therapy, therefore, a commitment from the participant & their support network to attend every session is required. Except for emergencies or sickness, cancellation without 24-hour notice will incur a cancellation fee in line with NDIS guidelines and PODDSS policy.

PoDDSS will show you the same consideration and respect by providing you with 24-hour notice if your program needs to the postponed or canceled, except in situations of illness or emergencies.
