

Staying Safe Program – Week 1

A 6-week interactive program for teenagers aged between 12-17 which aims to empower young people to make positive choices and develop the skills necessary to stay safe in situations in and out of the school setting. The program uses a variety of modalities including playing social skill board games and role-playing potentially dangerous situations to assist with generalizing to wider social situations. The group is run by a Psychologist with experience in working with people that have difficulties with making safe choices in social situations. The group is a small size, maximum of three people to allow for a suitable learning environment.
This is a 6-week program covering the following topics:
Recognising peer pressure and how to respond to it (Alcohol use, Smoking, Shoplifting)
Recognizing when people are taking advantage of you and how to respond
Taking other people’s property and reflecting on how it feels for the person whose property was taken
Cyberbullying and how to respond to it
Handling unpleasant feelings when people say unkind words
Responding to a friend that offers you a lift but has been drinking
Responding to request by a group of boys to go behind a building with them
